Our flea treatments for puppies

We understand how hard it can be to treat puppies for fleas, ticks and worms. Puppies are full of energy — it can be hard to get them to sit still at the best of times! With this in mind, we’ve developed a range of flea treatments for puppies that are easy to administer and just as effective as oral tablets.

Our range includes:

  • Flea and tick spot-on treatment — This topical treatment is great for puppies and dogs that hate taking tablets. Just apply the liquid between the shoulder blades and use the applicator to massage it into the skin. This easy treatment kills all flea stages for at least one month, controls paralysis ticks for up to two weeks and brown dog ticks/biting lice for up to one month.

  • Flea and tick spray — Our flea and tick spray controls fleas and adult brown dog ticks for up to seven days, and inhibits the development of eggs and larvae for up to six weeks. You can use this gentle-acting spray on your puppy, their environment and even on their bedding.

  • Flea and tick powder — Our flea powder is safe and effective for controlling fleas, adult brown ticks and lice on your puppy. Just sprinkle it onto your puppy’s fur, massage it in to reach the skin and brush away the excess. Plus, you can use flea and tick powder to treat your puppy’s bedding, favourite cushions and more.

  • Flea and tick shampoo — For the pup who loves to splash around in the sink or bathtub, we recommend our flea and tick shampoo. The gentle-acting insecticide contains natural pyrethrins to control fleas and adult brown ticks while leaving your puppy with a sweet, aromatic scent on their fur.

Why we do what we do

For more than 60 years, we’ve held onto the belief that no animal or pet should suffer. Around 53% of Australian pet owners are not treating their animals on a regular basis due to cost – and frankly, we won’t stand for it. Flea, tick and worm treatments should be affordable and accessible to all pet owners, so we keep our costs low. We want to do what’s right for Aussie pets and their humans.

Our flea treatments for puppies are formulated and backed by qualified veterinarians. You can rest assured knowing your pup is safe and sound when it comes to treatment — as well as the creepy crawlies your puppy picks up at the park and from their furry friends. Using natural pesticides derived from plants, our flea treatments for puppies are gentle and fast-acting, killing fleas and their larvae within 24 hours.

FAQs about flea treatments for puppies

When can I start flea treatment for my puppy?

Three months minimum for our flea and tick spray, eight weeks minimum for our flea and tick spot on treatment, and seven weeks for our flea, worm and heartworm treatment.

Is it normal for puppies to have fleas?

Puppies and dogs can pick up fleas from other animals as well as their environment. It’s possible for puppies to have fleas but it’s not ideal — we recommend checking your puppy’s skin, ears and fur for fleas on a regular basis to catch fleas before they get out of hand. We also recommend treating your puppy for fleas once a month to ensure year-round protection.

How can I tell if my puppy has fleas?

You might notice your puppy scratching more than usual, or that their skin looks irritated, red or scabby. These are telltale signs that your puppy might have fleas. You might also be able to see the fleas running around on your puppy — adult fleas are small and move fast, so you should be able to spot them in sparse-haired areas.

How long does it take for the treatment to work?

Most flea and tick treatments start working right away but generally speaking, fleas and ticks will die within 24 hours.

How long does the flea and tick treatments for puppies last?

It depends on what kind of treatment you choose and what you’re trying to treat. For example, our spot-on treatment kills all fleas, larvae and pupae for at least one month, controls paralysis ticks for up to two weeks and brown dog ticks/biting lice for up to one month. Our puppy flea spray can last up to seven days and inhibits the development of eggs and larvae for up to six weeks.

Make sure to read the back of the bottle/package and the instructions to ensure you’re getting the most out of your puppy flea and tick treatment.

Do I need to treat my puppy for fleas, ticks and worms if they spend most of their time indoors?

Yes! Pets are also constantly exposed to new infections from parasites sourced from the outdoor environment, vectors (e.g. mosquitoes and fleas) or from our clothing and shoes. Worms can be especially dangerous — left untreated, worms can remain inside your pet for long periods of time. Some worms can even self-infect by contaminating your pet’s environment with infective stages, so your pet will be continuously reinfected.

Are Aristopet flea treatments safe for puppies?

Yes! At Aristopet, we believe that no pet should suffer, which is why we only use insecticides derived from natural sources like the chrysanthemum flower. Our flea treatments for puppies, dogs, cats and kittens are gentle, safe and fast-drying so your pup will never be at risk of getting sick.

If you’re feeling unsure about our products, feel free to get in touch! Our team can explain the ingredients and the benefits for your puppy, so you can rest assured knowing your pup is safe and sound.

How often should I bathe my puppy?

Once a month is fine — some puppies can tolerate being bathed twice a month but this can dry out their skin. Of course, if your pup has rolled around in the mud or seems a bit smelly, you’re welcome to give the little rascal a bath!

Can I use flea treatments for puppies on bedding?

Yes, you can use our flea and tick sprays and powders to treat bedding, your puppy’s favourite cushions, and sleeping spots.
